When is the next tram coming? Geo-located it!
The public transportation of Helsinki offers a real-time geo-localisation map (see link at the bottom of the article) of its commuter trains, subways and on demand busses (called Kutusplus). It is quite interesting to have an overall view on the network which is, in my opinion, very well developed.
While clicking on a train, you can know at what time it will arrive to the next stop and what is it's final destination. The page is also accessible on mobile phones and is quite handy when the train is late in the morning for example. Unfortunately the regular busses and the boat to Suomenlinna are missing. In the metropolitan area, there are over 500 bus lines. Most lines are operating between 5:30 and 23:30, the most popular between 5:00 and 1:30 during the week. In the weekend, some lines are non-stoppping. The tickets prices have unfortunately increased and now cost 3€ per zone (Helsinki, Espoo or Vantaa) and 5€ if you are traveling between 2 zones. The best way to save money is to buy a travel card. There are also cards for tourists. Check the prices here

If you have a smartphone, you can also install the app called ReittiGPS. It is very useful.
Tip: The busses on demand Kutsuplus are free of charge on Valentine's Day! Visit Kutsuplus for more information: Click here
